Abstract

This paper aims to raise ethical questions regarding pronatalist logic and policies by drawing comparisons of different policies in certain East Asian and European countries, namely, France and South Korea. Both nations have implemented certain policies and strategies to address declining birth rates with differing results. This comparative study aims to examine the impact a country’s historical and societal context has on the public’s response to such policies and the effectiveness of them. The paper also examines the precedent the policies set and its effect on future politics, as well as ethical concerns about classism and female reproductive rights and how, if not addressed properly, could reinforce systemic inequalities.
