Abstract
This paper thoroughly examines the main barriers obstructing the implementation of the two-state solution, a proposal long considered the ideal approach for resolving the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. By critically analyzing the different dimensions and technicalities of these barriers—namely, territorial disputes and political instability—it concludes that they will continue to render the two-state solution unfeasible in the future. Territorial disputes, for their part, make the establishment of two separate states politically and logistically impossible, while ongoing political turmoil and internal divisions in both nations further complicate any chance of meaningful progress. In light of this, the paper explores the One Democratic State solution as a promising alternative to achieving a resolution between the two nations, as it is one of the few proposals with the potential to overcome the obstacles that have repeatedly hindered past efforts. Although the proposal is not without flaws and still demands thoughtful analysis and strong commitment from relevant actors, it offers a real possibility of ending a long and painful conflict.
